I've heard so many rave reviews on this forum about LITEON CD-RW's that I decided to go out today and buy one for myself. Well it's a LITEON LTR48246S, 48write 24 re-write and 48read. As usual comes in the red flashy looking typical LITEON box, with manual, screws etc etc and not to forget the one and famous Nero software version 5.5.9.13.
I've installed the unit in my PIII desktop just sitting under my Pioneer DVD ROM drive in my tower unit. Installation of the unit was very straight forward, though myself being too excited and carried away that during installation when I shared the two drives on the one cable, I forgot to set the Liteon as the master and the Pioneer as the slave, so not thinking I set both as Masters. Now when switching on the machine, all went through well, and booted up ok. Went into device manager, and no CD ROM drives were to be found, this is when I started to worry. Well it was back to the drawing board and I re opened the case to realise that the jumper settings were wrong. Anyhow I've fixed all that and she's working like a Patek Philippe. Also the drive has a very nice feel to it
Some questions:
1. Who makes the mechanisms for Liteon drives ?
2. Though the drive is made in China, I wonder if the chips etc etc are
either made in Taiwan or China, never ever pulled one of these drives
apart myself to look into.
3. Is Liteon actually a Taiwanese company, though they have a big factory
in China or manufacturing facility.
4. Is it true that they make drives for other company's
