LTR-52246s and 99 minute disks?

Postby dvohwinkel on Fri Dec 20, 2002 9:41 am

I saw in a review on the LTR-52246s that they had problems with reading 99 minute disks.. Has this been fixed in a more recient firmware?

Thanks

Dave:
I'd like to know what review that was. I've had the drive since early November and it's fine with 99 minute discs. Even since the 6s02 firmware. I'm now running 6s08 and it's still fine with 99 minute discs.
You'll find OTHER drives have a hard time reading a 99 minute DATA disc, but not the LTR 52246s. A 99 minute AUDIO disc should play fine on ANY cd player.

See my WWW link in my profile for making a 100+ minute audio disc. The process is still the same, I just changed from an LG drive to Lite On.

See my review on the drive: http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=7271

also check out the sticky thread: "media compatability" at the top. My posts are around page 5,7 & 9 I believe.

I've found 16x to be the fastest I can make a 100% error free 99 minute disc. Don't even try it @ 24x, mine was full of errors.

As for reading a 99 minute disc, check out the speed in this screen capture I did last week.

I've already spoken to Alexnoe about his results.
See this thread: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php ... adid=60478

His test media is of questionable quality and he used the original 6s02 firmware. I did too in my first series of tests. The I moved to 6s07 and finally 6s08 in the past two days.

I can't say I was able to duplicate his test results. I used high quality Ritek discs.

I only got that one up to 54x. Not bad for a 52x24x52x drive.

And I had Kazaa Light running in the back ground while I was doing the tests. Not to mention the Anti Virus & other software I usually have running in the background.

Yeah, with no official standards for 99 minute media, it really varies from manufacturer to manufacturer.

Well I have an OnLite 52x24x52 on it's way from Newegg for $70... Retail with no shipping nor tax... not bad I thought.

I decided against going with a rebadged OnLite... Be proud.. Show your true colors and all... :D

$70 is a good deal!

if you're looking for 99 minute discs, I bought mine @ http://www.yesbuy.net/cd-r.html

I bought a spindle of 100, and they're made by Ritek. 16x seems to be the fastest error free speed I can write them (for a full 99 minutes).
16x is pretty good for a 99 minute disc.

You'll be very happy with your new burner. I still am!

Memorex 48x24x48 for $29.90

Postby roll on Mon Dec 23, 2002 6:44 pm

Get a Memorex 48x24x48 at Staple store for only $29.90. Ask them to price match their own web site sku#495519. This is a Lite-on drive and sure you can flash it to a 52x24x52. Sweet.

I just got my LTR-522426S (Buslink) for $58 at BestBuy,
(Talked em down from $79 due to missing Nero Software disk. :D )

Funny thing is, I'm so broke I can't efford to buy any cd-r's or cd-rw's for it. ,
So I'm stuck useing my current 100bundle of 12x cd-r's and about 10 4x cd-rw's..

Anyways, my question is, this thing burns at 52x cd-r and 24x cd-rw, but i've
been unable to even find prices on either of these. cd-rw is actually what I'm looking
for. Cuase I do alot of SVCD's and i prefer to use the RW's for them, Thats why I
fought my *ss off to get the burner. Does anyone know of a place to buy good
24x 80min cd-rw's? (Cheap? )

SypherXx:
If you find the 700mb (80min) 24x CD-RW's, please post it here in the forums. I've never heard of them being available. I've seen a picture of one (over at CMC's webpage), but I've never seen one for sale in the USA or Canada.

The only 24x RW discs I've seen (and bought too!) are Verbatim 650mb (74min). They are flawless. Everyone of them in the 10 pack was flawless. Actually I only tested 9. I traded 1 to Action Jackson for testing.

I bought mine @ Amazon.com

You can also get them @ Buy.com & Techdepot.com

SypherXx,

I tested some 700mb CDRW's for audio overburning ability. [ http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=8087 ]

I don't burn SVCD's but you might want to give it a shot and post the results.

I'm still waiting for some Ultraspeed 700mb CDRW's too. But in the meantime 12x 700mb CDRW's seem to be prevalent now. As you can see, they generally are not that bad, maybe requiring a reformat or two before the burn is perfect.

The 700mb 12x Jensen and 650mb 24x Verbatim DataLifePlus CDRW's from Spazmogen worked like a charm and they were from the US. The rest of the media I got up here in Canada.

Happy Holidays!
