Get the Lite-On. It is a high-quality drive and the 48x24x48 drive can be overclocked to 52x.

I just bought the LiteOn 48x24x48 and I have to agree its absolutely amazing. I burned an audio cd at 48!! and believe it or not no errors. It's fast, cheap, good quality and reliable. I guess that's all you need in a drive.

Now, now... I like LiteOn too and own both a LiteOn CD-RW and DVD-ROM drive. But LiteOn isn't the only game in town. :)

I agree, LiteOn labs.com will be a little too harsh. There's a lot of choice out there. LG is pretty good, my previous 40x lg was nice but definately not as fast as the LiteOn.
There are also these"high quality drives" like Plextor and Yamaha which are double the price of the LiteOn. Are they double in performance? Not even close. :x
That's why people like LiteOn so much. But LG is pretty good too. I have had great experience with them. You might want to try their 48x burners. Although I wanted to buy the LiteOn because I never owned one before.

they should be the only player in town, as far as im concerned, there is no reason to buy any other brand, plextor's are way too overpriced, same with yamaha

all i can say about lg, is that there kinda ugly with that little swoosh, i like the simplistic look of the lite-on's, but since i now have a Thermaltake Xaser II A6000 A Plus, all my cd drives are covered up, so its not a big issue any more

here's the link to the case, which i think are the best also:

Hello!

LiteOn is not the only one, who makes CD-RW-drives

I own a Cyberdrive CW088D, and i like this drive. It´s fast, cheap and i had no problems with it

LG makes good writers, too. Not ever the fastest, but very good writing quality
Benq DW 1640 and 1650 , Plextor PX-755, Pioneer BDR-208 and 209D, LG GH24NSC0, LG BH16NS40 and 16NS55, Liteon ihas 124F and 324F, Pioneer DVR-215 and S21, Samsung SH-224DB and 224GB, and some more

You are comparing a 40X LG with your 48X Lite-On? Can you say apples and oranges? :P

I know what you mean though, Lite-On have faster writing times than LG, but I agree with what Scour said: a few seconds longer, but still great quality.

:D lol  Well I meant that LG really isn't bad at all. No question about the fact that LiteOn seems to be the leader, but whenever someone asks for a drive recommendation everyone goes LITEON. I own one too now but still doesn't seem fair to the other companies. So I was trying to present some more options, and plus not everyone is a gamer (i know a lot of people here are) so they don't really need the fastest and the one which can break copy-protection.
And believe it or not some people who aren't really IN TO optical storage, don't even know what LiteOn is. Ex: This weekend when I went to buy my new drive, I went to a friend's house (he's not very computer literate) and he asked what drive i was buying and i said liteon. He owns a Samsund dvd rom and a samsung burner and he asked "What is LiteOn?" lol. Believe it or not but some people would go with yamaha, LG etc.. for the name too.

LG sales lots of writer in Germany; many friends of mine uses LG-writers and there are say, that LG´s makes good writers, more reliable than LiteOn
Benq DW 1640 and 1650 , Plextor PX-755, Pioneer BDR-208 and 209D, LG GH24NSC0, LG BH16NS40 and 16NS55, Liteon ihas 124F and 324F, Pioneer DVR-215 and S21, Samsung SH-224DB and 224GB, and some more

Shouldnt they call this the "X-Box"? :-? It's drool worthy, makes my cheap generic 40 dollar Future Case look like...well a cheap generic case. It does remind me a lot of Antec cases with the grill design.

I was at Fry's and saw the LG refrigerator demo - it has a complete PC with LCD screen on the door, I guess mom can surf the web, send e-mail to grandma, listen to Mp3's and do all her computer related chores in the kitchen. (maybe download some groceries??)

yeah the case is built off the antec specs, there are tons of companies that do that, take alienware for example, but have you seen those doors on the front and felt them?

they are to say the least, just a piece of cheap plastic, the door on my thermaltake case is all metal, very, very sturdy, doesn't feel like someone can force open your door if its locked

also i realize nobody really knows who lite-on is, but its the this forum that gives everyone the info, this site is what brought lite-on's to my attention, not some paid-off site that reviews any plextor, yamaha, and despite their outright lies, praises them as the go between from god drive

pardon my rough language but plextor's can go to hell and rott

they aren't worth a single penny over the cheap lite-on price

and lg drives are good, but they just look cheapined by there front bezel
