Optorite/Cyberdrive in a Cendyne mask

Postby xboxjunky on Fri Dec 20, 2002 1:07 am

First off, I'm new to the forum and I would like to commend you on the site, great job.

My question is I just bought a new 48x16x48 burner tonight. Says Cendyne on the box, but from what I have read in here, it is actually, I can't tell which, an Optorite or an Cyberdrive, it doesn't have the curvey front face plate. I bought it at Office Max (59.99-30$ mir). Is this a quality drive? I have heard either way. Is it true a could have gotten my hands on a Lite-On? If I was to take it back, would they be willing to swap it for one of the Lite-Ons' without much fuss? I have actually heard of Lite-On, unlike the others.

P.S. I haven't had a chance to istall it yet, and it has the drive model # CW 4802 on the back.

Again, kuddos on the site, everyone seems to be so helpful. :D

Have you opened it and looked at the back of the drive? Lite-ONs have small circles in the bottom right.

Thanks for the reply. Nope......no circles. Do you think I should see if Office Max will swap it for one with the LTR drive model number if they have one in stock?

So, do you think I should go return it and try for the lite-on? As I said, I have heard nothing about these guys, but I know lite-on is quality.

Well here's the deal. The Lite-On is better when it comes to writing CD's. It uses CAV and has better media compatibility and is a little faster.

The Optorite on the other hand supports 16x RW speeds. The Lite-On rewrites at only 12x. Of course, I've heard that CenDyne has started to put 48/24/48 CD-RW's in their 48/12/48 boxes (look for LTR-48246S on the back label).

I bought a Cendyne - 48x12x48x earlier this year with the Lite-On LTR-48125W and it came a Cendyne sticker pasted right over Lite-On's information sticker on the top of the drive. The sticker can be peeled off eaisly.
