They are stored in a temporary file that is erased after burning. However, if you want to extract the songs to your hard disc and have them remain, that can be done also.

Not necessarily. There may be some configuration change that can be made to get it working. Right-click the "My Computer" icon on the desktop, select "Properties", and choose the "Device Manager". Within device manager, expand the CD-ROM icon, and select your CD-ROM drive. Right-click it, select "Properties", and choose the "Settings" Tab. Report to us the brand, model, and firmware version listed. Also tell us whether the box marked "DMA" is checked. Repeat the same for the Mirror burner, just for interest.
