DVD 16x PIONEER PROBLEMS

Postby dentarg on Thu Nov 28, 2002 8:17 am

Hi everyone,

I have a DVD 16x pioneer 116 and I got problems in the first startup because when I insert CD´s or DVD´s then autorun fails and if I open the explorer and browse to the unit then it says: there is a I/O problem and I can´t do nothing. :-?

This issue solves itself when I restart the computer again and all works ok.

So, wtf ! why I have to reboot my PC always two times in order to read my CD or DVD in my DVD unit.
Sometime I remembered all was ok, but now this is the problem I have.
My Pc consists of Windows 2000 professional with SP3 on a PIV 1.8 GHZ, 512MB.

Thanks all for the replies

Open Device Manager, delete the drive and its IDE channel. Right click on My Computer and choose Manage. Under Removable Storage - Physical Locations delete any CD/DVD drives. Reboot and let Windows detect devices. Check for UDMA settings in Device Manager... I hope that helped.

I have a pioneer 106-s and i just started getting that crazy i/o error a few days ago. I changed the atapi layer and unistalled everything, but it doesnt seem to do much.

BTW: running xp-pro sp1.

I updated its firmware ages ago, so i dont think that has anything to do with it.

A DVD Dilemma

Postby NeilPeart on Thu Dec 12, 2002 12:05 am

Dentarg,
First ensure that the jumpers are correctly set and you are using the latest firmware. Here is a link for the Pioneer firmwares: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/Pioneer/CDA/ServiceAndSupport/SelfHelpForIndList/1,1458,60~6020~6020600,00.html. Then make sure you have the latest chipset drivers and ensure they were installed correctly (check the secondary IDE channel's driver in the device manager). Also, try using a different IDE cable (a non-rounded, regular ATA cable just to rule out any other problems). Since both Windows XP and 2000 resulted in failures, the problem is most likely a hardware problem. Good luck.
