You can create a test disc by inserting a blank CD-R and using the Extra->Advanced DAE Quality Test->Create Test CD menu item. This CD can then be used to run both the Advanced DAE Quality Test (Extra->Advanced DAE Quality Test->Run Test) and the Advanced DAE Error Correction Test (Extra->Advanced DAE Quality Test->Error Test->Run Test)

To be honest, I don't know what the Create Image menu item does. That is new.

With the older CD Speed, I already used the "Create Test CD" and ran the "Advanced DAE Quality Test->Run Test". (And then realized the issue is moot if one uses EAC, anyway.)

But the new "Error Test" menu has
->Create Image
-> Run Test
as its submenus, as if the CD it makes is what it expects to use for the "Run Test" menu.

But, it won't create a CD for me.

(Maybe it needs an expensive real test CD to read from?)

I haven't been able to get the Error Test->Create Image to do anything for me yet either. However, using the disc created by:

Extra->Advanced DAE Quality Test->Create Test CD

I was able to run both:

Extra->Advanced DAE Quality Test->Run Test
Extra->Advanced DAE Quality Test->Error Test->Run Test

Have you tried that?

Okay, I finally found the link on cdspeed2000. Don't know why I couldn't find it before. Either it wasn't there or my mind was in a fog. But it really wasn't too hard to find today.

First, the general notes for the new release state:

Based on this, I thought the disc that CDSpeed creates could be used for both sets of tests. I tried it, and it worked for the DAE Test, as it always has, and for the Error Test. Or at least I thought it worked for the Error Test. That is why I suggested using the disc for both tests.

The reality, however, appears to be that although the Error Test ran using the DAE test disc that CDSpeed creates, I don't think it actually tested anything. As you suspected, a special test disc is required for the Error Test:

It is called the A-BEX TCD-721 special test disc, and it checks to see how the drive handles intentionally induced errors of increasing magnitude. I haven't investigated where it can be obtained and how much it might cost. Like you, I suspect it isn't cheap. But hopefully I am wrong.

I took an old DAE Test disc and scratched the crap out of it last week. I ran the DAE Error tests and I was able to get some results.

I'm guessing you could make a test disc something like this:

And then use it with CD Speed to compare the error correction capabilities of your drives.

And yes, the Abex discs are expensive. Here's their contact info if you want to get some for yourself:

Funny you should mention that. I was printing out the picture of the test disc on www.cdspeed2000.com (with its wedge of errors) and using it as a template for scratching a wedge on the underside of a DAE test disc made in Nero while you were posting. I was hoping to make a rough simulation of the ABEX test disc. The disc is currently undergoing the Error Test, and it seems to be working, since I am getting error curves similar to those shown on the CDSpeed web site. Of course, my little test disc isn't very repeatable. I didn't do it as carefully as they did in the link you provided.
