WSES screen capture. Is this an ok result for C1 & C2 ?

This is only the 2nd time I tried WSES, so I'm not sure if this is a low or high result. I'm thinking it's probably a low result.

The disc was the 52x Lite On branded one that came with my LTR-52246S. I burned it @ 52x. CD Speed showed it to be error free.

Where did you get WSES? I've been trying to find and haven't been able to find it...

Since WSES is potentially dangerous, it is a bad idea to make it easily available. Send me an email to someone who has it.

How big is this WSES file? I might already have it (but no Lite-On to check right now).

WSES is only 266kb, but it's a TRUE DOS program. It will not run in a DOS window.

You also need ST.exe to get the DOS screen captures.

The entire .zip file I have is 862kb but it has a few firmwares in it too. I just deleted them though.

The result you got is a little deceving because in Ian's reviews, the Y axis C1-error limit is from 0-50, and yours is from 0-200, but I still believe it would look very decent on a 0-50 scale.

The scale I used was the default one.

The guide is where I got that it will not run in a DOS Window.

I just ran it from a true DOS prompt.

Thanks, I hadn't noticed Ian's scale was @ 50.

So, here's another scan with a scale of 50.



It's a far cry from Ian's test on 48x TY discs. His is set at 74 minutes though, mine was at 80 minutes. I wonder if that makes a difference?

Are you using 80 minute discs in those reviews? I just saw that wses was set for 74 minute discs. I tested 1 of each.

So, the bottom line is are these C1 errors acceptable?

The 16x LG disc is ! I'm not sure about the 52x Lite On disc.

Yeah, I set it to 74 because thats how much data I burn to them.

Run a test on a pressed CD. You'll see that original discs actually have quite high C1 error rates.

The standards dictate a maximum C1 error rate of 200. I would say that as long as the disc peaks at less than 100, and averages at worst 20, you don't have a problem. The results you have posted are actually very good. Most discs will rise slightly above 70 minutes when recorded at 40x or above due to the rotation speed.
