DVD-Rom doesn't read CD-R

Postby Matrox on Tue Dec 03, 2002 1:20 am

Hello all of you,

I'm new to this forum but this seemed the right place to drop my problem.

I recently bought a brandnew Fujitsu-Siemens Scaleo 600 system. In this system is a HL-DT-ST DVD-Rom GRD8160B.

This DVD-Rom drive hardly reads any CD-R's. On the net I cannot find any info about this DVD-ROM drive, nor can i find a possible firmware update. Does anyone here has the same problem and did he or she solve it? If so? How?

Regards...

You mean the LG DRD-8160B? If so, then the drive is fairly new, a 16X DVD-ROM, and it should read CD-R's fairly well. If you want, you can download firmware for the drive here...

Thanks for your quick reply.

Win XP says GDR8160B, I don't know if the drive you mention is the same drive.

Yes, it should read CD-R well, but it doesn't. And it doesn't have anything to do with the CD-R brand either, cause some of one brand it reads, other of the same brand it doesn't.

Strange, HL-DT-ST stands for Hitachi LG DaTa STorage, therefore you have an LG drive. Although, all the LG DVD-ROM's I have come across are DRD-XXXX not GRD-XXXX, oh well. :P At any rate, try flashing the firmware if you feel brave enough, it may or may not help.

I'll look again when I get home and let you know.
Anyway, thanks for the link.

Nope, it's definitely a GDR8160B. I even found a product descritpion somewhere.

Now I wonder if GDR8160B uses the same firmware als DRD8160B. It's very well possible they are totally different.
