90 Minute CD

I`ve got a few nice packages of 90 minute cd`s from a friend ( MMORE 90 minutes multi speed ) , but so far no luck in actually getting 90 minutes worth of data ( 800 MB ) on them

I use the latest Nero , and I`ve got the MSI Dragonwriter 48X / 16X / 48X burner with 1.40D firmware revision .
In Nero`s preferences I set it so the slider is at 90 minutes and cram it till the CD is full , when I want to burn the compilation it simply ejects the CD claiming the disc doesn`t have the capacity

I tried putting 90 minutes in the overburn settings , but it returns the same error .

How can I succesfully manage to burn 90 minutes ?
My geuse is that Nero is fine , it`s just the Dragonwriters poor media compatbility bugging here

I'm Andrej and I've got the Sony CRX215E1 48x/24x/48x burner. I want to burn 90 minute cd's too, but I don't know how. Is it possible at all? This is my first CD burner. Can someone help me? Regards!

Set up the General Tab like this:


If you're using a 90 minute disc, set the RED marker to 93 minutes, 59 Seconds, 74 Frames.

Then set the Expert Features Tab up for the overburning like this one:


Set the Maximum CD length to the same as you did above, 93 minutes, 59 Seconds, 74 Frames.

Make sure you're burning in Disc At Once (DAO). Track at Once WILL NOT WORK. It will just kick the disc out at you. It has to be DAO.

See my WWW link for step by step instructions and pictures. I was using a 99 minute disc for an audio overburn. The process is pretty much the same (data & audio).

You only have to set up Nero once. Just leave the Red marker fields alone after that.

Just remember: 90 & 99 minutes discs MUST be burned in DAO or it will not work at all.

You only have to set up Nero once to overburn. The settings stick unless you change them back. They stick after you restart Nero too.

Just compile a disc as normal and click on "write Overburn Disc" when you're promted to.

Hi I notice you say the yamaha drive supports 90 and 99 min CD-R's. I have just purchased one of these and I also have a batch of 99min CD-R's.

I have configured Nero as described throughout the forums (Overburning) but still cannot burn beyond 82 minutes on a 99 minute CD.

I plan to do some tests and publish them here for your info, but my point is (Finally!!) where did you read that the Yamaha CRW-F1 supports these 90-99 min CD-R's?

From Yamaha. It's stated on the box of the retail version.

I can also tell you from personal experience that I've burned several audio and data CDs using 99-minute CD-Rs on the Yamaha CRW-F1 without a problem.

I purchased an OEM version of the drive, so no box, but I did look through the Yamaha Web Site and there wasnt a mention of it.

I have read a few threads about the CD types, I have done the following tests using the Nero Overburning Test;

CD Type Capacity MAX Extra
RITEK 7 00.00.00 80:23.46 (706MB) (99MIN CD)
TDK (IJP) 5 00.00.00 81.49.41 (719MB) (80Min)
CMC 6 "--------" 82.33.10 (725MB) (80 Min)

I used the Ritek (99min disk badged by infiniti) who have useful documents on their web site... http://www.medeainternational.com/info/90min.htm

VERY Worth checking as they have a list of writers that support 99min burning.

Hi All,

It is possible that some of you are not choosing the "No Multisession" under the Multisession group in the first page of Nero writing screen. If multisession is chosen by default, you will not be able to write in DAO mode.

personally I have followed the detailed setup instructions and I am aware that only DAO with no multisession will allow overburning.

my issue is that I cant overburn beyond a couple of minutes on a 99 min cd. My yamaha drive will simply see an >80min cd as a 74min cd!!??!?

Pissin me off to be honest, I am going to reflash back to the formware that shipped with the drive. See if that helps, other than this issue the drive is EXCELLENT!

I'm confused by that statment.

Are you burning 100+ minutes to the 99 minute disc or only 82 minutes ?

If you're only getting 82+ minutes out of it, then Nero is not set up correctly.

All drives will report a 99 minute disc as being a regular 80 minute disc. That's why you have to set up Nero for "Overburning".

I've never heard of it being recognized as a 74 minute disc before.

sorry I have left you confused! I am just reporting on what my CRW-F1 drive sees when you click on media information within Nero.

As I also said my Mirai Burner reads the 99min (900mb) cd's as 870 MB of available space but the yamaha see's anything theats more then 80 mins as a 74 min cd. Confused the crap out of me tbh!

I was (using the Nero CD Speed overburning test) only able to burn 78 mins on a cd thats 90 or 99 mins in size.

On an 80min TDK I was able to get 82 mins of burning.

I have configured nero correctly
The settings are ;
1. Overburn avialable
2. Yello marker 80.59.20
3. Red Marker 98.59.20

Therefore I guess the Yamaha will not burn correctly on the current firmware and I await a copy of the older firmware. My other option is to purchase another drive test it and then tell Yamaha to swap out the origional problem drive under it's warranty.

I now also have a Pioneer DVR-105 and this supports overburning, but sees all 80> disks as 80 mins.

Hmmm! Not sure what else to explain but an answer to my prob would be good.

I've used overburning in the past with my 800 Mb Cd's for creating Music CD's and its worked great. But now i'm trying to create a Data cd that uses most of the 800 MB on my cd-r and it refuses to over burn. It says that my medium is to small for the amount of data that i'm using. How can i overburn with a data cd?
