So I'm sure everyone has been watching Pricewatch lately. I'm sure we all see that 'Optorite' branded burners are the least expensive.

I want to know if ANYONE knows much about them, who makes them, any reviews, info on chipset used, etc. Are the good, or are then sh!t.

If you know anything about them, of have bought one and want to share your experience pleas reply.

They're also using a different front bezel. I personally think it looks pertty good compaired to the CD front bezels.

My friend just ordered me an Opto-rite cd-rw 40/12/40.
When I get it, i'll post as to how it proforms. I've never heard of them either.

I believe they (the 40X and above units) are based on Oak chipsets and sport ExacLink Buffer Underrun Technology.

I got an Optowrite 40/12/40 (CW4002), it's 100% Optorite (not repackaged). The face is not a regular square/flat face, but a semi-curved-out face.

Well so far, I've only been able to test it in Linux with CDRDAO. It worked fine, but since CDRDAO hasn't been updated lately, I don't know if it can use the drive to it's full capacity. What is the best, or recommended way to test the drive(s) in Windows (since hardware vendors usually support Windows software vendors to enable maximum performance).

i own an Optorite 32/12/40 and it works just fine. Burned over 100 CDR/CDRWs and not a single coaster. It works well with all medias that I've tried. Ritek, CMC, Acer, Sony, Philips, etc.

no complains from me, in fact they have released a firmware upgrade which i plan to apply in the weekend.

before i bought the drive i did some research, what i found out is that Optorite and AssessTek (not sure about the spelling) are one and the same. They manufacture OEM drives for Cyber and others. They use Exaclink and the Oak chipset.

like I said, its cheap and its reliable.

My friend have one of this. He bought it as a Cendyne... he didn't know better to look for the Lite-On. Which I laughed at him... but now, I am regretting it....
Optorite 48x16x48 is the best VCD ripper I have ever seen. I compare it to my own TDK 48x24x48.... it is not even close. TDK can do VCD ripping (mode2) at 20x-22x. Optorite can do the same disc at 30x.....
Since I do a lot of duping of VCD (mainly to loan it to my friends, I have original), I am even considering swapping my drive with him.....

Care to post your media results with the Optorite 32/12/40, wrecker? I'd be very interested in adding it to the media compatability list since we have no results for any Optorite drive yet. Look here for the thread...

From you, all I need is the brand of media, the media manufacturer, the size of the media (74 or 80 minutes), the rated burning speed on the disc, and the successful burn speed that you achieved without any errors according to Nero Scandisc. Any contributions would be greatly appreciated!
