Burning DVD-Rs at higher than rated speed

Postby gonta on Wed Nov 27, 2002 5:34 am

Has anyone tried to burn a 1x DVD-R at 2x speed ? would it work ?
I'm waiting for my Sony DRU-500A to arrive, but I'm holding back on buying the 1x media.

I've burned 24x CD-Rs at 40x with no problems would the higher capacity of the DVD-R make burning at higher speeds imposible ?

TIA

If your concern is wasting money on 1X media and you have orderd the Sony DRU-500A then just buy + media. It runs at 2.4X. I don't believe you will have any success trying to run 1X media any faster then 1X. The speed is determined by the media not the burner. The burner however must be capable of running the speed that the media is designed for. If you try running 4X media (assuming you could find some) in an A04 for instance it would not work. In fact it might break the A04 unless it has been upgraded for that media then it would probably run at a max of 2X.

I bet that is more information then you were looking for! :)

Hope this helps......
Have fun.........Bob
