I do believe in the general idea of protecting intellectual property rights, but I find it hard to work up much sympathy for the corporate criminals and mega media conglomerates who portray themselves as helpless victims and bribe legislators into passing laws such as this. And I really don't like to see organizations such as BSA and FAST, which are actually private business consortiums acting only in the self-interest of their members, being given what amounts to police powers. Will we soon see "officers" wearing Microsoft badges busting in the doors of ordinary citizens' homes? When did the people decide to cede control of their governments to private industry?
I know, I know. Nothing has really changed. The people never really did have control of the government - it has always been, and always will be, the case that those who have the money make the rules. Still, I would like to see more protection for consumers against the abusive practices of big business.
