Stand-alone DVD/CD player doesn't read CD-R/DVD-R

Postby aaidonnow on Sun Nov 24, 2002 11:17 am

We have a Panasonic SA-HT80, a Home-theatre-system. It's a kind of hifi-system with tuner, CD-player and DVD-player.
Now I have the following problem : The specifications of the system say that it doesn't play any CD-R / CD-RW / DVD-R / DVD-RW.
And indeed, it won't read them, it just says 'no disc'.

Now I was wondering if it really isn't possible to make it play these copied Cd's/DVD's. Maybe by inserting a mod-chip or something like that?

If anyone could please help me ....

PS: I live in Belgium. If the solution to the problem is something like buying a chip, do you also know any addresses in Belgium?

I don't think so because the early units had a one pickup head designed for DVD disks only and they couldn't read CDR/CDRW/ all the other record your own formats.
I found that out when I bought a Sharp at Costco, had to return it and get a Pioneer that advertised dual pickup to read CDR's etc.
Almost all of the units here in the US will read them now, it's a feature folks demanded, and MP3 support too.
