How do the Maxell Gold CD-R's compare to other gold CD's? Also who makes them?

They are just plain old Ritek discs*. The only thing gold about them is the color of the labeled area. They are not gold as in having a gold reflective layer like the Mitsui Gold or old Kodak Gold discs.

*There is some small possibility that Hitachi/Maxell actually made the discs themselves, but these days I think virtually all of the standard grade Maxell discs are Ritek, at least in the U.S.
