My Sony 52x CD-ROM is still in daily use. When it's time for CD to CD copy, it works well with Sony 12x/8x/32x CD-RW.

While I love my Lite-on LTD-165H and Teac CDW-540E, no drive can match the quality/speed ratio of my Plextor UltraPlex 40Max 40TSi (though my Asus CD-520 52X CD-ROM comes damn close). It's unfortunate that the newer drives are still lacking one great feature: accurate (above all) and fast DAE. I've recently read that Plextor may be ceasing production of the 40Max. I may have to purchase a couple "back-up drives" if that fateful day ever arrives. If I don't, my venerable Plextor 12/10/32S may miss his older brother.

I think they have ceased production of those drives. What they're selling now is just the stock they have in warehouses.

I'm not sure about clean DAE from CD-RW drives. Read this thread:
