I haven't heard squate. You'd think Verbatim or someone would be the first to announce 4x DVD-R media.

Yes, it's a shame.

Oh well, I just ordered the DRU500A today, so I'll have to start doing some research on 4X media.

If worst comes to worst, I'll try the ebay media. It is so cheap, that I'll take a chance.

hey veff, congrats on the new drive, really good choice. when u get the drive, could you possibly do a short review?? i am very interested in this drive and would like to know how it performs. i have heard on cnet that it may have copy protection, but then again we all know how much people at cnet bluff. looks like a promising drive, and the stylish look with the price is just awesome.

I actually don't care about the copy protection on the drive. I'm ripping off a $40 16x Lite-On DVD drive. Dell tells me they estimate shipping mine on the 7th.

i am ripping off my 16x pioneer too  by the way how much do u guys think NEC will price their drive for? It has 4x DVD+-R but its slower in CD writing than Sony. That one's coming in November as Ian wrote in the news, so it should be interesting to see how much that'll cost (seeing the fact that Sony is generally the costlier in everything).

Didn't ZDNet say like 295 pounds?

That will be like $600US or $10000000000000000000 Canadian.

oh common ian, u know our canadian economy isn't that bad. basically US 60 something cents make 1 Canadian Dollar.  :P 8) :D but wait, $600 for the NEC and $315 for the Sony. NEC gotta reduce significantly.

Sony DRU500a

Postby loaded33 on Tue Nov 19, 2002 8:30 am

Just got my Sony 4 days ago and have burned over 40 dvd's @ 2x.
This machine is a workhorse. I also used the el'cheapo dvd's from Princo.
No problem, only they wont read in my creative dvd player. But every other player i tried.
I haven't seen the 4x dvd-r yet.

I don't know if the question was for all of us, but I use
Stomp RecordNow Max to burn at 2X (or any speed) with this drive.
Nero works at 2X too, but I do NOT use it for DVD video, only data.

I was at Comdex yesterday and I spoke with some dvd media manufactures. One being Memorex they said to expect 4x dvd-r blank media to come out in the middle of January.
