Has Nero ever taken something away with a new "upgrade&

I am just about to start using Nero for some things.

Since I have not followed the history of Nero upgrades, could someone please tell me if in a past upgrade if you ever noticed something, a feature, a button, a routine, taken away in the new "upgraded" version? I have seen this happen before in certain software.

I thought something was up when my friend's new TDK cdrw drive came with Nero Express and not Nero 5.5. If he installs my old TDK Nero 5.5 software from my old TDK 24/10/40 will he be able to use it and upgrade it with his new TDK 48/24/48 ?

If it's OEM Nero (it's tied to a certain burner) you may be out of luck. If it's a retail edition of Nero and you give it to him, it should work forever.

i know in one version of Nero express I could create .ISO format images.. then I upgraded and had to do it in .NRG format only (Burning ROM still worked fine)

With my old HP9100 I could choose to burn at 6x, after a Nero upgrade the option to burn at 6x was no longer available.

As long as we are resurrecting this thread, has anyone noticed that Nero Express is not a separate program? At least, it isn't a separate program when you have the full Nero bundle. Check the shortcut properties of the icon used to launch Nero express from the start menu, and you will see that Nero Express is just plain old Nero Burning ROM called with a ‘/w’ command line option.

I wonder if this applies to those drives that are "only" shipped with Nero Express. Has anyone whose drive came only with Nero Express tried double-clicking on the actual Nero.exe file in file manager? Or tried clicking on the "Nero" button within Nero Express (it switches the interface to the traditional Nero Burning ROM interface)? Or has this functionality been disabled in distributions that only contain Nero Express?

This function has been disabled with the Nero Express that came with my TDK 48X CD-RW drive. I'm not too sure what version of Nero Express it is, but it only works with TDK drives and features less features than the regular verison of Nero.

Nero Express is the same as Nero. Same Engine, and same code.


But Nero Express is limited based on the Serial key used to install it. With Nero Express bundles, you only get the Nero Express interface, and can not go to the Nero Classic mode.

Those with original Nero Vision interface will always get this as it's based on the serial key you install Nero with. So if you have an OLD TDK bundle, you get the full Nero Classic option, and you can jump to the Nero Express GUI if you wish.

For those who purchase the new TDK bundles with Nero Express, they can not upgrade to the full Nero by a simple upgrade of software. They must purchase an upgrade from OEM Bundle to Retail for $19 US dollars from the www.nero.com website.
