Wizard I just tested another of the 24X White topped Riteks and at 40X it produced damaged sectors so i would change my opinon to 32X to be on the safe side mate. It seems they are not very consistant with quality.

Any thoughts on how, exactly, we should define an unsuccessful burn? Obviously if the burn fails outright it is no good. But what if it completes with perceived low quality? For example, I just tested a TDK 80m, 40x disc made by Ritek on my 24x Yamaha CRW3200EZ, and, although the burn completed at 24x and the disc is readable, it isn't very good quality. Too many C2 errors/damaged sectors. Definitely not media that I would recommend. Any thoughts on how to report? Should I just give it the "--" thumbs down?

And, while I am here, anyone have any sources for TY made TDK's with the metal-stabilized cyan? I've been burned (in the bad sense) by the Ritek TDK's, but am still willing to give the TDK TY discs a spin.

yeah, i would also like some more clarification as to what exactly you mean by successfull burns.

Zero errors with ScanDisc.

To answer your question, cfitz, drop the speed down on those Ritek discs to 16X or even lower. If they go all the way down to 1X and still have errors then mark them as "--".

When I get a chance I will try to test those TDK's at lower speeds.

if so then note:

in the previous CDSpeed, version 0.85e beta, the last "block" in ScanDisc surface scan was always red - a bug. (at least for me and for many others!)
even if the CD was actually burned fine!

fixed in the new version 1.00 !!!

dodecahedron: I'm aware of the bug in v0.85e of CDSpeed's ScanDisc and I disregarded the final red block in all my tests. Seeing that people have submitted a lot of results, I think that most of the submitters have ignored the final red block too.

Boy these things stink! And I mean that literally too. Really. Take them out of the box and you are greeted with a nasty plastic resin odor. Pull them out of the drive after being burned (and thus heated) and it is ten times worse. I'm getting woozy from the fumes drifting up from my burner... ... I wonder if these fumes are toxic? If you never hear from me again, you know what happened.

Yes, and despite the trepidation with which I sometimes visit the dentist, I have to admit that dentists are one of the two classes of medical professionals that I can truly say have helped me in a concrete manner. (The other is eye doctors.) Both have earned my gratitude and respect. I hope you all have found good ones yourselves.

As for other members of the medical profession, while I don't doubt their sincere efforts to help, it seems like all they can really do is poke and prod a bit, and then let your own body heal itself.

I think I have to ask this question even if there is a list of compatible media for TEAC.

Does anyone out there with TEAC W540E burner have any preferences on what is the best media that works well with it.

Yesterday I tested a LG/Prodisc 32X CDR, my surprise come when SmartBurn Utility and NeroCDSpeed shows the same type and ATIP from LG/prodisc 16x and 24x that can be burned at 40x but this new 32x disc burned at 48x and NeroCDSpeed write test shows no speed down at end, I'll try to bought more of this media and do more tests.

Anyone know good cd-r's that work on the Pioneer DVR-A04 (or 104) dvd-rw drive? I've been using Sonys, and I just ran out.

I know verbatims are good....pricey but good. Oh...btw, I'm using a G4 Mac if that makes a differnce....uh...in Canada.
