This will be a rambling post, maybe not what the exactly what the current discussion entails, but here goes:
I use the Asus 52x with the latest version of EAC (09b4). I am using lame v. 3.92 as the encoder. I am in the process of re-ripping all my cds (the 1st time I did them at 128 kbps and now I am doing them at 192 VBR. Is this necessary? I don't know, but I just feel like doing it.
I have had no problems as far as encoding goes. I believe there are rippers out there that are faster than EAC, but speed is not the most important factor to me. I may be mistaken, as I don't watch the program at work all the time, but I would rather have a slower program that gives better sounding audio than one that rips faster and may have to try and recover from more errors.
I often put a cd in, start up EAC, and use one of my other machines for 15-20 minutes. I will try and check on this within the next few days with some numbers if I can.
BTW, I think ASUS rules, not just the CD-S520, but their mobos as well. I am quite happy with the DVD E-616 as well. Does anyone have any experience with their video cards, GeForce 4 Ti4200, 4400, or 4600?
