Question cdburnerxp and drives

Postby gamemaniaco1987 on Mon Feb 03, 2025 6:15 am

Whenever a DVD or MDisc DVD passes the Verify Files After Burning test, does it indicate that all data was burned correctly?

What happens when, during the verification of files after burning, the drive disconnects and reconnects immediately or after a few seconds? Is the verification stopped or paused?

I have some DVD M-Disc discs. Is it normal for some drives to appear empty and for others not to be recognized for reading?

I'm not sure how cdburnerxp does its verification. Is it checking the writing quality of the disc or is it doing a file by file comparison?

No, it should not be normal for discs to appear empty or not recognized. You want them to be readable by all drives.

I also don't know what cdburnerxp checks after burning

On my Lite-On iHAS122-14 FU drive (currently firmware EL06) during burning there were 4x recording errors on the mdisc dvd after that on the same drive the disc is not recognized, on my friend's old asus it appears as an empty disc and on my asus 24x Drw-24f1mt the disc loads and shows the files that were burned even with the errors but extraction is not possible

Is it normal for a poorly burned mdisc dvd not to be read by the drive that burned it, to be read by another drive but without showing the files and to be read by a third drive and the files to be shown?

Yes, some drives are better than others at reading scratched, dirty or poorly burned discs. I would just toss that disc in the trash and try burning it again.

Either the disc had physical defects and/or the writing quality was so poor that it had a hard time reading it after the fact. It happens.

1. Is it normal or abnormal for two MDisc DVD drives to be burned in the same drive using CDBurnerXP? The first disc burns and verifies in total 21 minutes. The second disc burns and verifies in total 27 minutes? 4x speed two discs

2. If the DVD SATA drive disconnects and immediately reconnects to the PC during the burning or Verify phase, will any error message be displayed by CDBurnerXP?

3. Is it normal for some DVDs to automatically open the Windows Explorer folder with the files when inserted into the drive, and for other discs, do you need to go to the D: drive and click to open the files?

4. Is it normal or abnormal for a badly burned MDisc DVD to not be recognized by the drive that burned it, but to be recognized as a blank disc by another drive, and to be recognized and show the files that were burned by a third DVD drive?

Okay, going to answer these questions one more time.

1. I'm not really sure how its doing the verification. If its doing a block by block verification, it should be able the same. If its doing a file by file verification and the number of files is different, the time will probably vary.

2. I'm not really sure. You'd think it would error if someone physically disconnected a drive.

3. It depends on whether or not AutoPlay is enabled for the drive:

To make Windows automatically open a DVD when inserted, you need to enable the "AutoPlay" feature in your settings; access it by going to Start > Settings > Devices > AutoPlay and then select the desired action for when a DVD is inserted, like "Play the DVD" or "Open folder to view files.".

4. Again, this really depends on the drive, media and writing quality. As I've said before, some drives are better than others at reading poor quality discs or those that have been scratched or have bad writing quality. Long story short, its totally normal.
