Okay, going to answer these questions one more time.
1. I'm not really sure how its doing the verification. If its doing a block by block verification, it should be able the same. If its doing a file by file verification and the number of files is different, the time will probably vary.
2. I'm not really sure. You'd think it would error if someone physically disconnected a drive.
3. It depends on whether or not AutoPlay is enabled for the drive:
To make Windows automatically open a DVD when inserted, you need to enable the "AutoPlay" feature in your settings; access it by going to Start > Settings > Devices > AutoPlay and then select the desired action for when a DVD is inserted, like "Play the DVD" or "Open folder to view files.".
4. Again, this really depends on the drive, media and writing quality. As I've said before, some drives are better than others at reading poor quality discs or those that have been scratched or have bad writing quality. Long story short, its totally normal.
