JVC Media USA ends business in December 2015

Postby stix on Mon Nov 16, 2015 12:05 am

I was not aware media usage had dropped off to the level that we have to say goodbye to the good stuff.
The only Taiyo Yuden media I have used in recent years has been the JVC branded stuff I bought a couple of years ago.

JVC Advanced Media (U.S.A.) Inc. is announcing the discontinuance of its business. Effective December 2015 the company will no longer sell any of its products...

Sorry to hear Taiyo Yuden is shutting down its media production lines; noticed that in Ian's post about "Plexdisc". How did I miss that bit of news?

Not that I burn a lot of discs these days, but I should probably stock up before its impossible to get.

I still have plenty from when I stocked up at the office stores when they were blowing out verbatim 100 packs for 14. Just recently got 100 bdr disks from New Egg for 15 a 50 pack shipped too and I hardly burn disks anymore either.
Been using my networked media player with external drives and Plex or Kodi lately, works great. Might burn some backups and some of the series season collections to the bd disks eventually.
I guess things are moving on so corporations are dumping unprofitable lines, too bad, its hard to find quality blanks even if I don't use em much now.

I'm looking to buy CDRs. Haven't bought any for at least a couple of years, and have always bought TY's in the past. I found some AZO Verbatim Data Life Plus at Amazon:

Are these any good, or should I try Rima, in hopes that still have premium Taiyo Yuden's available. Or would Falcon CDRs be OK? I used my CDRs mostly to archive.
