What to buy: Yamaha CRW-F1 or Plextor or Teac W540 ? Opinion

Hi,

I currently have a Liteon 52537 and a Mitsumi 485g.
I am happy with both.

I want to buy 3rd CD-RW (no DVD burner please)

I am having a hard time choosing between the 3. Teac the older 540 model with 8Mb or Plextor Premium with 8Mb or yamaha with 8Mb. The choice is not based alone on the MB. Lasting, durability counts too.

I will probably keep this drive stored. Not for immediate use.

I read reviews on all 3. They all did well in reviews on this forum.

The Plextor is about $90 teac about $90 and the Yamaha about $120. Price is not an issue.

I mainly burn music CD and data. No games. I tried to do backups with my liteon and mitsumi on my games but i get errors most of the time.

Out of the 3 which one would be better for back up my flight simulator game MFS2000 and MFS 2002 and MFS 2004. They are getting scratched.

I am interested in these models only. Teac has a newer model out but did not have good reviews.

I know there are fans for all these 3 manufacturers. Based on OWNER experience which on you would recommend?

i would recommend either yamaha crw-f1 (currently own external), or the plextor premium (just sold mine like 2 days ago)

both are excellent drives that burn excellent quality when paired with TY CD-R's

I like my yamaha alot. The disc t@2 feature is priceless.

Well, Yamaha is out of stock so ordered the Plex Premium for $91 today...will have in few days.

My vote would be for the Yamaha CRW-F1 since you have a choice and then the TEAC. The Audio Master mode burns the best and has the most pit land accuracy followed by TEAC.

OMG I just found this thread again. I owned the CRW-F1 external. EPIC DRIVE!

I looked and you can still buy one used from amazon.com, I kinda want one again, that and a plextor premium again. But sad that the premium was an IDE drive so wouldn't be able to use it internally.

I should really dig out my stash and take some pictures. I'm guessing a lot of people never even heard of the F1 or the Premium. They think Plextor just makes SSDs.

never had the pleasure of fooling around with scsi. but those write speeds of 8x8x24 are insanely fast

I sometimes use also old IDE-writers with my new PC

Only use a PCIe or PCI-card with IDE and right chipset, no prob in actual maschines

When I started with CDRW burners SCSI was the only thing fast enough to keep up and I had acquired a nice Western Digital card cheap from them trying to sell the cards then deciding they weren't popular enough to keep making or selling. I later upgraded to a nice wide card and Plextor burners then IDE got fast enough and all the cards I had got retired once all the SCSI hard drives I had died. They were fun to setup and get running right but once it was working you could add all kinds of gear to it with no issues as long as everything had it's own specific address on the chain and was terminated properly. I still have my 1655 and 1640 IDE DVD burners and quite a few of the old LiteOn CDRW IDE drives that got me started here.
My first burner was a Yamaha 4260 I paid 450 for online.
