Fidelity of Music Saved to HDD

Well, I've gone ahead and implemented Plan A, that is, I ordered an amplifier and a CD player; both should arrive later this week. While I found several items of equipment that had varying degrees of wireless connectivity, I decided to ignore that and go for (as best I could discern via industry reviews and user reviews/feedback) the "best" sounding components that I could reasonably afford. We'll see....

You still could do one of the media player solutions down the road cheap and see how it suits you. For the kind of money the cheaper ones go for it wouldn't be a huge loss if you decided you didn't like it and could probably make most your money back reselling it or gift it to family or friends that would like one.
What gear did you end up ordering? My first CD player was a cheap Denon that sounded really nice but all it did was play single disks very well, nothing trick.

Yeah, I'll probably do some sort of media player thing sometime. I think getting Netflix over the 'net and into my TV would be cool. But the first thing was to take care of the audio. My wife really enjoys listening to music, and especially enjoys classical and jazz. I did so much research, and finally decided on a Marantz amp (not a receiver) and a TEAC CD player; this is a combo that someone on Amazon reviews had, and other reviews provided strong cooboration of their individual worthiness (I can't think of the model numbers off hand...). These will be my last purchases of these particular items. That's one reason I spent a little more than I really expected to, and of course, I wanted the best fidelity I could get for the money I had to spend. The TEAC CD player is a single disc unit also. My wife did not really want a multiple disc/tray model, and I'm hoping it will provide years of trouble-free service.

My wife used to own a ton of CD's so I bought her a 100 disc changer. What did she use all the time? The DVD player, because it was easier to load a CD.

I'm searching through the Synology web site -- man, there's a lot of information there! They seem to be very consumer oriented, and this is good for me. It looks like their DiskStation DS212J "Budget-friendly 2-bay NAS Server for Small Office and Home Use" fits the bill. I'm starting to read the user's manual. Here's a link from that PDF I stumbled across regarding the type of HDD drive that is supported by RAID. there is no doubt there is lot of apps like this but my favorite one is LiveXLive.
