Me too... and for the BD media to drop to ten cents a disc! It's just not practical or reliable enough to trust optical media for storage... I use many HDD's. Glad the traditional magnetic media is coming back down in price!!!

Yeah, I don't think either is going to happen. There's just not enough competition in that market nor is there a big enough demand for media outside of Japan.

I saw a Hitachi 2TB hard drive for $130 the other day and this was a good deal. I think I paid half that for a similar, if not the same, drive about a year ago.

I paid 450 online for my first CDRW burner, a Yamaha 4260 SCSI drive. I paid 350 for my first DVDRW burner, a Sony 500a, my first BDR cost me about 220 shipped and can read HD DVD too which is a must for me so the prices now for much faster drives seems good.
Technology always does this, early adopters get to pay a premium for slow stuff that nobody else has then eventually they get faster and way cheaper as they recover their costs and decide to make money in volume sales.
You can bet someday there will be 30 buck BD burners but by that point there will be the next big thing costing early adopters a lot of money.

I have my Yamaha 4260 sitting on a shelf at work. People think I'm nuts for keeping it but its a piece of history.

I didn't keep mine though I probably should have, but at the time I kept upgrading as faster and cheaper drives came out and I sold it to offset my latest upgrade.
I also sold my 500a too but I do still have my NEC 2500, and all of the LiteOn CDRW drives I bought.
I think the 2500 should go down in history as one of the very first really high quality burners that also accidentally got the very first upgrade to burn dual layer disks.
I probably have over 20 burners here either packed away or in use somewhere and selling one to cover the latest upgrade just doesn't have to happen now, it's more like clear out some space 8)
Ask anyone if they have a SCSI card nowadays and you'll probably get a blank stare unless they are geeks with some time under them

I still have UltraPlex readers, BenQ DW1620's/1640's, Several Plextor writters. My first CD burner was a Ricoh MP6200S... sold it long long ago.
