Where to buy 100GB BDXL Blu-ray Disc media?

Postby Ian on Wed Nov 02, 2011 6:12 pm

Anyone know where to buy some 100GB BDXL media? Looks like TDK, Sharp and Panasonic make the discs but of course they're not available in the US.

Gotta wonder how much these guys are making by importing them from Japan.

Only $25 plus $10 shipping. I wonder why they're so cheap.

DO IT, you know you want too 8) either that is the deal of the century, at least for now, or they have some crap disks that probably don't work or aren't what they say they are. I didn't look at the link but I'd check their feedback and ask the seller some real questions and see what comes back.
I've gotten some great deals from mistakes and things that just weren't advertised in the right place and like that, ya never know, might be worth a gamble.
Well checked the link just now and he has 100 percent feedback so definitely might be worth a shot, doubt my LG GGWh20 will support those but that would be cool to try out if it did.

Does anyone know what the price per GB storage is for blu-ray media as of today 6-17-2012. I am just curious if it even comes close to using a 2.5inch hard disk.

What never made sense to me is the fact that the optical media storage group decided to delay the technology that lets you store 1TB or more per disk
as a courtesy to their parent corporations, but what it really did was actually kill the industry. They were so scared of making pirating easy that they made it easy.
Is this irony or ironing?

Technology is like a slot machine. You can find websites in every foreign country that shows all the details the americans and canadians forget to put in their reviews, like whether it works or not.
I will never pay $2000 for an 8track cassette tape player converted to store data, just because I don't like being ripped off and I liked 8tracks better as music players.

As far as I can tell, companies still aren't selling it in the US. Everything being sold here is imported from Japan so that automatically jacks the price by a good 20%. The value of the Yen over the Dollar really doesn't help these days either.

I just did a quick search on Amazon and a 100GB BD-R XL disc will still set you back a good $85. At that price, you might as well get a hard drive. Heck, you could buy an SSD with more capacity.

Piracy does play a big role in it, but what it really comes down to is the fact that Americans are cheap. Where the Japanese wouldn't think twice about paying $50-$60 for a 100GB disc to archive their tentacle manga, most Americans would not. They'd rather save $1 and buy the cheapest garbage they can and then complain how the disc with their favorite wrastling videos no longer works.

It's good to see retailers in the US selling them finally. It's only been, what, like 2+ years since they were launched in Japan?

lol, I didn't realize it'd been that long actually. It's a good thing I wasn't waiting, as I'd have grown impatient and given up by now.
