It would probably work. The hard part is installing it in the laptop. If it has a hot swap drive bay, you'd need to find a drive chassis that would work with the laptop. Otherwise, if the laptop already has a drive already in it, you'd have to disassemble it and install the new one.

Ian:
Thanks a million: :)
The manufacture says just pull out the old drive and pop in this one. Bingo! I am not sure what the 'hot swap drive bay' can be.
You might want to explain a little bit more by sendin me a graphic or something like that so that a newbie like me can do it.
I apologize for my ignorance. But you are the only one keeping me on top of things Hope to hear somthing from you.
Kudos to you and the forum masters. =D>

That would be awesome if was that easy. With the laptops I've owned, the optical drive is encased in a plastic chassis which then slides into the computer.

Ian:
Thanks. :)
That is not the case here. The whole drive comes out w/o any plastic tray supporting the drive [or anything like that].
It simply slides in or out. I have 3 sony VAIO's. All the same. If possible take a look at the model I have. That way you can opinionate definately and 100%.
May be drive in Q won't need all that paraphernalia you think is necessary. Simply slide in the new burner drive.
And pray to God. It starts working. I am almost tempted to do that. After chasing google, Sony and a dozens of websites I am about to retire with this subject. Luckily I found CDRLab website and webmaster like you.
Hope w/ your wishes it will have to work. Thanks again and have a wonderful day, you all :D
