Memorex 52X discs burning speed...

...in Nero? Anyone know why these discs would only burn at a maximum speed of 32X in Nero on my Pioneer burner in my sig?

Is it just Nero? Will it burn at 40x with other programs?

Nero is the only one I have I believe and I really don't want to install others. I'm guessing Imgburn wouldn't work for that though. Doesn't Winamp have its own CD burner installed, but maybe that won't work for just data files? Anyway, here's the info on the Memorex CD-R:

Front label part: Memorex CD-R 52X 700MB 80min

Wonderful, them selling 52X CD-Rs that only have a supported burn speed of 52X.........WTF?

I've had a few high speed CDR's that just wont burn at their rated speed in my burners but I don't think I have anything in here now that even supports 52x with CDR's. Whatever the firmware and the program think it's best at is the rates you get unless you want to play with the burn speeds in hacked FW and I doubt many are doing that with CDRW burners anymore.
I think most of my DVD burners only do about 40x to the Verbatim CDR's I have, and they may have the same mid you do, and they are rated to 52.

I can't say that I'm surprised. Pioneer has always been bad about supporting non-Japanese media.

What firmware does your drive have? According to this PDF, it should work at 40x with 1.09.

I'm not at home right now, but I believe I have the latest firmware (I'll check tonight). I did pop one in my office computer with the same version of Nero and InfoTool comes up showing 52X as a supported speed on my Lite-On burner at work. It's probably a combination of Pioneer and the cheap media. Maybe I should just move my BenQ DVD burner over to this computer and be done with it, but then the older computer would be without a burner....hmmmmmmmm.

Where does it show it works with 40X in that pdf? Is blank capacity the same as start time? The only Ritek disc that shows 79:59:70 is the 48X JS Type80, so is that the media I have?

Just checked and I do have the 1.09 firmware.

I believe Nero shows TY media on my BenQ as 48X max possibly but I'll have to check to be sure. I may even check the Memorex in the BenQ also.

I'll be running a comparison of single-layer DVD-R burning at 4X on my Pioneer and BenQ DVD burners soon. The DVDs are already burned and I'll just need to run the tests in CD/DVD Speed. I'll be posting the results the same way as I did for the CD burners earlier.

Well it seems that most all of my DVD burners do support 48x to whatever this verbatim media I have is. I tried burning them at that speed and the results depending on the burner were fair to bad so I dropped them down to 24x with my H22n LG and they burn great at that speed, flat, low jitter and low errors all around. the other burners don't do as well error or jitter wise no matter what speed I choose so the LG is used to burn them now at 24. Even the 1655 doesn't burn them as well so I guess having this many optical drives in here pays off once and a while.
Just becuase they can do 52x doesn't mean they get good results, and of course it depends on the burner too if you have a few around to try.
Sometime I'll have to dig out one of my old liteOn CDRW drives that does 52x and see how it does and what speed it likes for the disks.

The Memorex 52X CD-R media and TY CD-R media both show up as 48X in my BenQ drive.

So it's Verbatim CD-R media that you tried? Could it be that the firmware updates on some older DVD burners didn't cover the Verbatim media you were using? How would these errors you are seeing manifest themselves in data or music or video files? Also, as little as I know about DVD burners, I'm surprised about the 1655.

Well I think for most recent players the disk made in any of the drives I tried will work fine, it's just that the LG seemed to have the best overall burn quality of the ones I have tried so I'll stick with it with this batch of disks.
The disk are Moser Baer mid 97m17s06f 79.59.74 capacity 703mb according to CD speed, and are made in India.The 1655 will also burn them at 48x and it's FW is ancient now.
If the player is picky the disk of the worst burners might skip at the end or just not load quickly or read at all but like I said most new gear should read any of the disks my burners made, even at 48x but I try to give out the best quality disks I can so I tend to be pretty anal about how good the disks test out before I send em along. I haven't heard that any of the ones I made so far don't play but I doubt they have used all of them yet.
If your as picky as me do some test burns in your favorite burners at various speeds and test them and you'll quickly find out what speed and burner do best together.
