DVD+RW damaged or unformatted ?

Postby davexnet on Fri May 21, 2010 2:09 pm

Hi,
I was trying to burn a data disk on a used DVD+RW, IMGBURN tells me it needs to be
Formatted first (IT often says this on disks I formally burned with Nero 6 -
Nero 6 not handle DVD+RW properly?)

I started the format and it got stuck at 99%. The only way I could stop it and get the
disk out of the drive was to restart XP.

Now when I put the disk in, the media is not recognized, and
the drive will not come ready.
Is the piece of media dead now, or is there something I can do to re-format?
I looked closely at the surface and it's clean - not sure why this happened.

Thanks for any info.

Sometimes you can recover it by using another drive and/or another piece of software. I've found thatDVDInfoPro will sometimes erase a disc when other programs won't.

Thanks for the info - however, seems as if the disk itself is damaged in some way,
(perhaps the unit cannot read the MID or something similar?)
DVDInfoPro gives the status, "waiting for unit to become ready".

Indeed, the drive light stays on as if it is unable to read it at all,
and it behave exactly the same way if you put the disk in upside down.

Thanks for the link to the program, looks quite interesting.
