I wanted to burn some dvd's today on my laptop, but the strange thing is that sometimes my disk drive doesn't recognize my dvd's. The strange thing is, that these dvd's that I try are all exactly the same and brand new, but only a few work. From a pack of 5 now 3 are not recognized by my laptop. This pack costs over 10 euros so it's kinda frustrating if only 2 work.
The disks are DVD+RW, 1-4x speed, single sided, and of the brand TDK.
My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite P300 18M, with Windows Vista Home Premium on it. It should be able to burn DVD+RW's according to DVDInfoPro Xtreme (which is obvious because it has worked already). I just use the vista software to burn the dvd's.
It looks like the problem is with the DVD's, and not with the randomness of my laptop, because if I try a rejected disk later, it will still be rejected then.
But since they all are exactly the same and brand new (and I assume the shop isn't conning me with replacing some good disks in a pack with some faulty disks), should I then suppose it is my laptop that breaks the DVD's?
The problem is that I don't really know where the problem is
. Vista hasn't been too consistent, and so haven't I. Sometimes I try the Live File System (or so?), sometimes the mastered way. I am sorry that I can not give you a lot more info, but I have tried a lot now and my tries tend to blur into eachother. So I don't have an accurate timeline or so. What I do know is that of my first two disks, one worked and another didn't. Then my third or fourth worked too. So it isn't a broken down laser in my disk drive or so, that suddenly stopped working. I really hope there is someone who has an idea about what could be the problem with the DVD's or with the laptop.
