Software issue??

My notebook has an internal Matsushita BD-CMB UJ-20 ATA (Blu-ray DVD) on a Vista system that came with pre-installed Power2Go software to deal with the drive.

Last week, I got an external Pioneer.DVR-X162Q drive.
So, I decided to test creating the following media on each drive: CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, and DVD RW.
For each media I attempted to create a "Mastered" version and a "Live" version.

ALL worked in the Pioneer.
All, except the CD-RW, worked on the Matsushita.
When I right-clicked to format the CD-RW in the Matsushita, I was informed that there was no media.

But, ISO Buster detected the blank CD-RW on the Matsushita.

So, I guess that there is either a problem in the Power2Go software for formatting CD-RW, or there is a firmware issue that ISO Buster knows how to bypass,

The Matsushita does recognize CD-RW that were recorded by the Pioneer.

I've suspected this problem for quite a while, but was not able to follow up until now.
Fortunatelly, warranty is 2 years (purchased on 31 May 2008).

Yeah, that sounds like a software issue. What happens if you leave the disc in the drive and reboot?

Have not tried that yet.

I'm handling my remaining 3 unused CD-RW so much they are starting to get too dirty to erase/format.

Problem is much deeper than I thought.

I created a CD-RW on the Pioneer using UDF 2.01 (the default version), and packet writing was enabled.

I then put that CD-RW in the Matsushita drive.

1. A desktop.ini file was added when the disc opened. This is nonsense and violates both ISO 9660 and ISO/IEC 13346.
2. Packet writing was disabled.
3. The disc was in "burn files" mode, not drag and drop mode.
4. I could not burn files as the disc was treated as write protected.

I guess that I need to find something to replace Power2Go in vista.
I wonder what's gonna happen when I install Win 7?

In the meantime, I guess that I better buy some more CD-RW.
I have no more unused CD-RW.
