Damn, I would have been all over that. I just bought 4GB of ram from last week for $37.

It looks like the deal is still going.

It's $118 before a $20 MIR.

Hey Ian, hit slick deals, I believe there was a coupon code they posted that dropped the price a bit more. That's where I heard of the deal anyways.

Ok, here's the link http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread ... &t=1241859 I guess it was just the extra rebate, still a great deal as long as the rebate company is reliable. Probably even a great deal with out the extra 20 bucks.... still tempting but been off and on work since after X-mas what with weather and the economy right now.

That's the chip I got when friend gave me this new board and memory. It has BSOD every so often but I am using win 7 and all this new gear so might also just be teething pains and setup issues. Those chips do have the TLB bug and everyone claims they are 10 to 15 percent slower with the bios fix and patches enabled.
I can't say that my issues are related to it and I just turned off the printer and file sharing because many times it seemed it would crash when my sister turned on her computer or shortly after.
Your board should support it but I think I'd still get that 9850 or even the next step up that is like around 130, I think it's a 720 phenom 2 or something like that, anyways theres a thread about it and the 9850 on slick deals.
I'm happy with this chip but if I was buying right now I'd go for at least the 9850, faster base speed and no TLB bug if that ever would be a issue for you. I was tempted to buy that myself but trying to not buy too many things with work being dead an all.

I just built a Biostar TA790GX XE (mATX) with a Phenom II x3 710 for my parents... Cheap little rig and works great... Easy way to 4 cores.... As easy as enabling ACC in the BIOS. I think the Phenom II 7x0 and 8x0 are AM3, so not sure if it would work for you.

Most of the AM2+ Asus boards support AM3, just not DDR3 so he's probably good to go, mine will. It was a smart move on AMD's part to make it backwards compatible with older boards so they could snag the low bucks upgrade crowd. I guess the new chip has the controller for either flavor as the pinout is the same so guess it was easy to add dual memory support.
Pretty sure his board does it, I think he looked it up and pretty sure I did.

I finally broke down and got a 9950 from SuperBiiz. With Bing discount, it came out to about $103 shipped. Now I just need a new hard drive or two.

Try some video encoding and recoding, they really shine at it. My times dropped by about half compared to my old dual core 4600 939, and your chips faster then my 9600 :D
