Flashing an OEM LiteOn LTN-486S

Postby bizzybody on Wed Aug 26, 2009 4:13 am

The drive is a Compaq OEM, Compaq has no firmware updates. Liteon has released several updates, the latest was released in 2003.

Nothing I've tried will backup the firmware from the drive and nothing I've tried will extract the firmware from the YS0N flasher or patch the flasher to ignore the drive check. Digging through archive.org, it looks like XFlash 2.4.4 was the last version that'd extract scrambled firmware. There's another utility I tried that's supposed to work on scrambled LiteOn firmware but that didn't work either.

Anyone out there with a non-OEM version of this drive?

Try LtnFlash:

It should backup the firmware for you and if you have a binary, flash it with a non-OEM one.

I don't have a binary file. Haven't been able to extract it from the flasher program. I'll see if this can at least backup the OEM firmware.
