Software for Ubuntu Linux

What are the recommended free packages for Ubuntu Linux that have the capability of recording on optival media, a la Drag to Disk and InCD, as well as creating/opening .iso files?

I've heard of Brasero and Gnomebaker.
Which is better?
Are there other recommendations?

I haven't burned a CD or DVD under Linux in ages. If it were me, I'd install both Brasero and Gnomebaker and see which one I liked best. It's not like they cost money.

Packet writing is built into the Linux kernel but you'll need to install udftools. Here's a good thread explaining how to set it up:

You really don't need a utility for .iso files. There are commands built into linux to create (dd) and mount (mount) disk images.

Last night/this morning (I have not yet gone to bed), I noticed that Ubuntu has Brasero pre-installed.

Glancing at that article, I see that the postings are 2-3 years old.

Surely, drag and drop must have been implemented by now.

The Brasero installed by ubuntu 9.04 seems to support only iSO 9660 format.

I'll check further at the Brasero and Gnomebaker web sites.

I hope that it means that UDF is used.

FYI, the latest download at the Gnomebaker web site is dated in June 2008.
I would guess that the project is dormant, or there is nothing else left to do.

Brasero's latest update is dated in June 2009.

I'll boot to ubie now, and see if I can find a way to use UDF wit Brasero.
I found no help in the downloaded files.
Maybe there is a built-in help?
