ATAPI writer DH20A4P & HP 1035r burner

Postby damddrew on Tue Apr 28, 2009 9:40 pm

ok ppl here goes it: #-o
recently i have done a sys recovery - nondestructive .... anyhow, now my winXP sp3 reads them both as a DVD RAM drive. have been looking and looking for the respective 'drivers', however all i run across is firmware. could anyone point me in the right direction?

everytime i put a dvd-r into either of the drives, the drive(s) think its a cd-r? have tried two different brands of dvd-r (sony & memorex) to no avail.

both drives came w/ a nero 7 disc that was supposted to have the driver on it. however, i only have access to one of those disc's at the moment, and nowhere on that disc is the driver .... there are drive manuals' on the disc tho.

[-o< ~much thx to any help!~ [-o<

Are you talking about how they're listed in Windows Explorer or My Computer? I'm not sure why it does but but its normal.

yes ... under 'my computer', the 2 drives are listed as DVD-RAM icon ... but when i put in a DVD-R disc, the drive says its a cd-r. both of the drives (are suppost to) read dvd =/- r.

anyhow, it wont let me burn a dvd-r because the drives attempt to read the wrong format (dvd - cd).

before i done the sys recovery, i had somehow deleted the drivers to my USB ports & both (self-installed) dvd writers. the recovery brought back the multiple USB controllers installed here, however ... the dvd drivers had gotten uninstalled thru windows manager? i believe it was ... so after the recovery, the drivers weren't there for the computer to replace ....

being the type of drives, i have read up on, and windowsXP will identify the drives as what they are, giving even the capabilities of reading CD/DVD, but in order to do any writing of DVD, the actual driver is needed.

Go into device manager and delete the drives. Reboot and Windows will find them as new hardware and reinstall the drivers.

back, i completely uninstalled both drives using device manager, then did a reboot.
windows came back and reinstalled both drives w/ their respective driver, so far so good.
only 1 problem tho ....

the factory driver, not the XPdriver ....
im looking for the writing part of the driver, is what i need.

If you want to write, your best bet is just to install Nero.

hey hey hey ... i got it goin! .... the driver was 'inside' the nero setup program. i installed one of the disc's that came w/ the dvd drives(nero7) and however 'my computer' still see's the dvd-r as a cd-r, the software sees it as the dvd-r .... so i guess all is well on that part too.
