DiscSpeed no longer detects USB drives

Postby VideoRoy on Sun Mar 01, 2009 2:54 pm

Since I installed Nero9 none of the DiscSpeed or older CDSpeed versions from 3.x to 5.2.7.0 will detect my drives that are connected via USB but ATA drives are fine. All the other Nero utilities and applications detect and use the USB drives no problem. Also every other burning app or utility I have can detect and use the USB drives no problem.

The USB drives are in 2 different enclosures and one drive is very old and the other is a more recent. If I move the drives to my other system that is running Nero 7 they are detected both by DiscSpeed no problem.

I believe it has something to do with Nero9 since the problem began at the same time. I have hunted through the registry but really did not find anything obvious. Before I uninstall Nero9 completely and clean the registry, I thought I would check to see if others have seen this.

Thanks for any help.

Try searching the directory where Nero is installed for a file called wnaspi32.dll. With Nero 7, its located in the "Core" directory. Take this file and copy it to the same directory where you have DiscSpeed and try running the program. If this works, you can copy the file to a directory in your path (Ex: system32).

Thanks Ian, unfortunately I did not see your post in time. I got frustrated after lots of troubleshooting and cleaning everything I could, I finally uninstalled Nero9 and reinstalled Nero7 and that fixed it.

If I get some time I will reinstall Nero9 (takes an hour or so) and see if it stays fixed. If not I will give the wnaspi32.dll a shot and if that does not fix it I will just stick with Nero7 the burining engine is still pretty good in that version and I seem to be using Recode less these days.

Pretty sure it does need a ASPI to work so Ians idea might be the cure. seems like it used to ask which ASPI you wanted to use back when the OS didn't always have one and most programs needed one to use optical drives.

FWIW, I reinstalled Nero9 and it is now running along side Nero7 :o and they are playing nicely together (so far). I actually only installed Nero7 burning ROM not all apps.

DiscSpeed versions 3.x thru 5.2.7.0 all work with the USB connected drives now.

Solved: DiscSpeed no longer detects USB drives

Postby VideoRoy on Mon Mar 02, 2009 9:09 pm

I uninstalled Nero7 and the problem returned. Next I dropped winaspi32.dll in the directory with DiscSpeed and bingo problem solved.

Hats off to Ian!! =D>
