CDRLabs DVD Writer Poll - December 2008

Vote for what you think is the best, all around DVD writer. By doing so, you'll hopefully help those looking to buy a new drive. Once again, I tried to chose original drive designs that are currently available or will be soon.

Feel free to leave comments and an explanation as to why you voted the way you did. Also, if there's a drive you'd like to see added to the poll, let me know.

Pioneer DVR-115 series and Optiarc AD-7200A series are just about the best drives I have for most media, with Pioneer DVR-112 series (not on the ballot) being just as good.

My older scanning drives weren't mentioned and are no longer available (LiteOn SHM-165P6S, BenQ DW1655, Plextor PX-760A).

I guess I should update my signature...

The Opitarc 7200 is also the best for most of the media I am using now; the Lite-On 20A2 is my best scanning drive which will report jitter on DL media.

Yeah, I think the Optiarc drives are totally underrated. I'm curious to know what's going on over there though. It's been more than a year since they introduced their 20x writers and there hasn't been any word of a 22x writer or a new 20x writer with faster DL writing speeds.

I have upgraded to the Samsung SH-223Q...it is NOT the best drive...but I was forced to replace my aging SH-S203B...after hundreds and hundreds of burns...the 203B finally started to refuse to burn disks for me...oh well...the 203B, if you can find it is one of the BEST drives I have ever encountered...the 223Q, with maybe a few more firmware updates...should get there...
