trouble with pc installing and reading my optiarc AD-5590A

Postby yomalc on Thu Oct 30, 2008 6:31 pm

I have a dell lattitude X200 (yes i know its old) P3 800mghz 256ram XP pro Sp3
I use the external 24x cdrom drive that came with the old guy and it connects using this external caddy which is called; DELL Type5 external IEEE 1394 SBP2 device. I installed a Optiarc AD-5590A DVD/CDRW into the caddy (its a slim one) and I found (in japanese) the correct drivers but i could not get my old lap top to recognise the drive. time and time again the computer finds and sees the caddy but does not read the dvd drive. is the caddy not compatable or am i doing something wrong?

Help Please?

I'm guessing that the caddy has some sort of IDE to FireWire bus in it that isn't compatible with that drive.

yes its an IDE type caddie uses similar to fire wire, the thing is my old lap top does not have USB 2.0 only USB 1.0 which is a problem as buying a normal caddy is out of the question! time for a new pc!!
