Is it possible for a DVD burner to reject a media brand?

I have a new Samsung SH-S202 DVD Burner and an old Sony CRX320 CD Burner as a backup. I just tried making a backup of a studio session I did last week from a CompUSA (Lead Data) CDR. Using EAC, my new Samsung burner couldn't read the disc at all - sync errors on every track (this has never happened before on this drive), and when I tested it with Nero CD Speed, there were tons of C2 errors right from the get-go. Just for the heck of it, I tried my old unreliable Sony burner and low and behold, there were no ripping errors at all, and CD Speed gave it a clean bill of health. What's going on here? Now, I've never come across a Lead Data CDR before so is it possible that my Samsung burner just doesn't like this brand?

I had this happen on an old TDK (really old now) CD burner and it upchucked on a disc I had. It would not even dectect another one I had at the time BUT the drive was, and is (still in the box after I removed it), a good drive.

If the newer DVD burners are like that I don't know as my Plextor has never ran into anything it will not burn just at a slower spin (unless the disc is physically bad).

Lead Data media... I'm surprised they were readable at all.

Some drives are better readers than others. For example, Lite-On drives are very good at reading discs that might not be readable in other drives. At the same time, some drives also have better error correction than others.

old Sony CRX320. That's a Lite ON 52x model.
It should be a much more forgiving reader as the samsung.
Leaddata media isn't very good and like Ian suggested it's suprising that it's readable.
Yes the lite on's are much better then average readers when it comes to these disc's.
Downside of the Lite On cd drives is that there construction is questionable seeing the number of drives that went down over the years.
