Lite-On iHAP622 and iHAS622 22x DVD Writers @ Computex

Lite-On had their new 22x DVD writers on display at Computex. According to the info on display, the iHAP622 (PATA) and iHAS622 (SATA) are capable of 22x DVD±R, 8x DVD+RW, 6x DVD-RW and 12x DVD-RAM writing speeds. The drive also support Nero's SecurDisc as well as SmartErase. It's good to see a drive that actually supports SmartErase as the software for this feature has been available for some time. Is this the SmartErase that's been in various versions of Smartburn and LtnFlash? I'm really curious just what it does, i.e. if it's capable of reliably destroying a non-RW DVD.

These look like interesting drives btw. The number 6 has always been good for LiteOn.

Yeah, I think this is the SmartErase that's been in their various utilities. I have a feeling that its similar to Plextor's PlexEraser technology.

I've heard 3Q of 2008 which could mean as early as July or as far back as September.

In the past the drives were much earlier sold in asia than in Europe and North America
