LG Transforming Super Multi Blue Drive Commercial

Postby Ian on Tue May 13, 2008 11:15 am

LG has posted a commercial for their new external Super Multi Blue drive on their website. The drive transforms into a robot and then skates and flies through the city.

I won't what LG would say if I asked them if the drive can really transform. 8)

Yeah, the optical storage isn't as exciting as it once was. Hopefully things pick up once Blu-ray goes mainstream.

DVD technology is boring now... none of the drive makers try anything interesting, and all the best players have largely left the game (BenQ, Plextor). Blu-Ray is thankfully seeing some return to the old days, with Panasonic going all out on their drives. I just hope the format takes off enough to swing interest back to optical media. Otherwise it's good bye optical media, and hello flash memory.

The same thing happened with CD writers. Things slowed down and then picked up again with the coming of DVD writers. I'm hoping that Blu-ray drives are a bit more interesting as I'm getting a little burned out by the half assed DVD writers most manufacturers are turning out.

I've been tempted to do reviews of flash media products, but I really haven't come across a good testing methodology. I'm not really sure the interest is out there anyway. As with optical media, people seem to buy the cheapest crap out there with no thought to the performance or life expectancy.
