PS3 Cannot Play LTH BD-R Media

"VLR130N5" of a Mitsubishi chemical media and "BR-V25WTY" of Taiyo Yuden were tested by "DMR-BW200" of the editorial department. Either media were able also to do the move of digital broadcasting and the reproduction after the lighting unquestionably though it was natural because it was a correspondence model.

However, when the disk was inserted in PLAYSTATION 3 (firmware Ver 2.10), either media were not able to be played. Media seem not to be displayed, and not to be recognized to "Video" menu though are displayed the disk loading mark like the ripple on the screen.

When this matter had been heard in Sony Computer Entertainment Japan, it was an answer with "PS3 did not correspond to LTH, and the correspondence in the future was being examined". It is necessary to note the user who thinks that it will reproduce the disk recorded with the BD recorder with PS3 at present though there might be a possibility to be going to be supported in the future.

Talked with Microboards about TY BD-Rs yesterday.... don't expect them to be showing up in North America anytime soon. As your article mentions, they're LTH media.

They'll get here eventually, especially when BD-R burners really start taking off and consumers want a cheaper BD-R option. I suspect it is only a matter of time before Sony adds support to the PS3 via a firmware upgrade...

It looks like this has already been fixed in the latest update:

You can now play BD-R version 1.2 (LTH* BD-R) discs.
*LTH, or low to high, is a recording method that supports organic dye, write-once BD-R media.

That's good news.... also bad news because it means that LTH media will be adopted quicker now
