A good rewritable HD DVD drive? Yes, HD DVD

Postby Henri Tapani Heinonen on Tue Feb 26, 2008 9:04 am

What is going to happen to HD DVD-R, HD DVD-RW and HD DVD-RAM discs and drives? Can I still buy them in the year 2009?

They do not make movies to HD DVDs anymore. Will they still use HD DVDs as data discs? This is a serious question.

I would like to store my data to HD DVD-R(W)s or HD DVD-RAMs.

Someone said there is only one burning HD DVD drive model and its writing quality is poor. When can I expect
LG's Blu-ray/HD DVD combo drive which has a good HD DVD writing quality? No, I do not want to forget HD DVD. :-/

I don't think you understand. Only Toshiba made an HD DVD-R burner, and it was only for laptops, and it was only available for a very small number of models from Toshiba. That's all there ever was. Most media manufacturers stopped producing HD DVD-R media a while back because it didn't sell. Most will likely be recycled because it never sold and there is no reason for it to start now that the format has been declared dead by Toshiba themselves.

In short, there is no hardware support, no software support, and recordable media will be removed.

And no, LG will not (and has not) release an HD DVD-R burner.
