Decoding Pioneer's New Model Names

Postby Ian on Mon Jan 07, 2008 4:10 pm

Pioneer Electronics announced their series of 20x DVD writers and once again, they had to go and rename all of the drives. Here's what we have so far:

DVR-X152 (DVR-115D?) - External USB 2.0 with 20x DVD±R

DVR-1910 (DVR-115D?) - 20x DVD±R

DVR-1910LS (????) - LightScribe with 20x DVD±R

DVR-2910 (DVR-215D?) - SATA with 20x DVD±R

DVR-213LS (DVR-213K?) - SATA and LightScribe with 20x DVD±R

Without a complete list of specs, I'm not really sure what they all are yet. The two with LightScribe are really throwing me. DVR-115C? DVR-215C? Thoughts?

They had a 111c that had LS, be cool if you could hack it to do both LS and Label flash. Frys here had a bunch of the c models but I didn't need yet another 111 just to see if it could be done.

I remember reading that the "c" models, or lightscribe models, had additional hardware for that feature in the DVR-111 version. My next writer will be a SATA so I may try the new Pioneer with Lightscribe out. Hopefully MSCE is updated to add DVD+R SL bitsetting for it.

Hi, this is my first post.

The DVR-213LS should be the DVR-213K available in China.

According to PCDVD taiwan, the DVR-213K is probably the ASUS 2014L1T

Pls note all the above pages are in Chinese and I am not sure if they can be read properly.

If only the SATA Lightscribe drives could do DVD-RAM I'd buy them in a heartbeat... (I assume they can't, but would love to be proved wrong)

I swear, I love Pioneer drives, but they refuse to build me a drive that I am willing to buy at the time.

Hopefully some interesting cross-flashing stuff appears...

I hate to bump this old topic, but I was looking through Pioneer's website and noticed that they had DVR-116D and DVR-216D firmwares listed under the DVR-1910 and DVR-2910. Does anyone know if Pioneer shipping these new models under the old drive names?
