DVDInfo Pro scans of new Verbatim. Help interpreting results

I just performed my first PIPO scan of some new Verbatim DVD-R media.

Tool = DVDInfo Pro
Writer and reader = Pioneer DVR-111D fw 1.29
Burned with Nero 6.6.x.x at 6X.
Media is Verbatim DVD-R media ID = MCC03RG20
Data size = 4.37 GB (or so) disc image


DVDINfo Pro PIPO Results:
PI Total = 84733
PI Peak = 62 (see attachment to see the number of peaks since a picture says a thousand words).
PI Avg = 10

PIF Total = 104
PIF Peak = 5
PIF Avg = 0

POF Total = blank

Quality Rating 98.05%


I am looking forward to comments since this is my first PIPO test
ever so I don't have anything to compare it to.

I don't know whether the Pioneer is the best reader for a PIPO test (i.e. I don't know whether another drive would have yielded different PIPO results).

How reliable is DVDInfo Pro?
(Nero CD/DVD Speed doesn't work for my drive).

I wish i could help you but I don't use DIP or Pioneer drives for testing. If that came from a Lite-On or BenQ drive, I'd say that its pretty good but I'm not sure how Pioneer drives are for write quality testing.

That program is actually probably better then cdspeed for testing media. It takes more parameters into account when it assigns a number grade to your burns. I usually use cd speed mostly because it's what I'm used to using and I know where all the stuff I want is and the shortcuts. On the same drive they both will usually give similar results.
Pioneer drives seem way optimistic to me, I always use my 1655 for tests but that looks like a good burn and you can change the readout to look similar to cd speed by selecting block mode if you'd like.

Can I use a Lite-On DVD-ROM for the scans?
That's the only Lite-On DVD drive I have.
It would be good to compare it to the scans done on the Pioneer.

I also burned a DVD with ImgBurn this evening.
I am going to check the results later.

Yes it can use almost any drive but people mostly use liteys, I did till I got my BenQ's, now I won't touch a LiteOn. Newer ones can also do jitter testing and some claim they are more accurate but who knows.
The guy that does that program does pretty constant updates and bug fixes just like cd speed, and Image burn is a really nice program that can work with it as well. It does a nice job with DL burns too.

I wouldn't trust those results- particularly the DVD+R counts are just too low.

Older versions of CD-Speed supported Pioneer PI/PIF scans, but the units and counts were funny. The support was discontinued at Pioneer's request.

LiteOn DVD-ROM drives can do scans (I used my LTD-163 for this prior to acquiring a burner) but the results will not be comparable to what burners show.

Why don't you use your Plextor for scanning? You can use Plextools Pro (limited edition) or - better - Alex Noel's PxScan/PxView.

Regarding the Plextor:
I wasn't sure whether it would be any better at scanning the Pioneer.
I always heard of Lite-On and Benq burners being used for scanning (I'll have to search for and read explanations as to why).
I neglected to post that one of my Plextor drives (the one on the PC I was using for the burns and tests) was acting up and not working properly despite hardly any use.
I ended up getting Pioneer 115.
I may try to fix that PX-716A using some techniques someone posted, but I don't want to spend too much time on it.

I'll run some tests when I get a chance on my other PC downstairs which houses my other 716A. I'll post the results for comparison purposes.

It's because they're a lot cheaper than Plextor's.. which means that everyone has one.

And don´t forget, Plextor-drives need much more time because accuracy = 2x speed, and u have to scan 2 times if u want to scan PI and PIF
