Asus 2014 burner quality or Samsung?

Postby Draugr on Mon Dec 03, 2007 11:37 am

Hi,

I am looking to purchase a DVD burner and of course would like the fastest, most reliable burner out there. I see that many recommend the Samsung as the best, but there is one silly problem with that unit. At least silly in that it is the reason I'd prefer not to pick it up. My system has mostly silver or white 5 1/4 or 3.5" drives. I'd like to keep the look consistant and it appears the Samsung only comes in a black bezel or faceplate. I saw that the ASUS 2014 comes in a white faceplate version as well as black. As such, I'm looking at the ASUS drives and saw some reviews but wasn't totally confident in the drives after reading the reviews.

So, I wanted to ask the following questions.

1. Has anyone tested the new ASUS 2014 burners and are they better than their previous attempts?

2. Does the Samsung drive come in a silver or white face plate / bezzel?

Thanks
John

The Samsung's I've seen are either black or beige.

The DRW-2014L1T does come in silver, but I really can't comment on its performance as I haven't had time to test it yet.
