Part. Refund for Seagate hard drives bought in last 6 years

Postby MediumRare on Sun Oct 28, 2007 3:27 pm

I couldn't find an english link to this story, but heise reports that Seagate is settling a suit out of court and is offering a 5% refund to residents of the US who bought a Seagate hard drive in the last few years. The actual settlement can be seen here: http://www.harddrive-settlement.com/notice.htm

The background is the issue of hard drive capacities- Gigabyte vs. Gibibyte. I know that most people here don't agree with me, but I think that the hard drive vendors have been reporting the capacity correctly using decimal prefixes. I feel very strongly about this (I've been using the binary prefixes ever since I found out about them).

Anyways, if you're affected, you can pick up some change!
