CD-DVD Speed 4.7.7.5 Released

Postby DrageMester on Sun Sep 16, 2007 6:54 pm

Erik Deppe has released Nero CD-DVD Speed 4.7.7.5.

This release is in fact more recent than DiscSpeed 4.8.2.0.

Here's the list of changes:
* Improved support for HD DVD-RW (DL)
* Disc Quality Test: improved support for Asus drives with a Mediatek chipset.
* Jitter scan speed for LiteOn drives can be selected with a registry value:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ahead\Nero Toolkit\CD Speed\CD Quality
REG_DWORD Speed Jitter
* small improvements

Huh? Really?

Jitter testing for Lite-On drives. I'll have to give that a try to see if its worth it to include it in my tests.

Yep, straight from the horse's mouth.

Jitter testing for Lite-On drives. I'll have to give that a try to see if its worth it to include it in my tests.

In my opinion jitter testing is worth including, but jitter reporting for DVDs on LiteOn drives is not reliable at scanning speeds higher than 4x.

I like this new version. You can do your normal PI/PIF scans at say 8x and then the jitter runs at another speed.

One thing I don't like about these 4.7.7.x versions is that it doesn't automatically refresh when you put in a new disc. For example, if you take out a DVD-ROM and put in a DVD-R, it doesn't show the new type or size. You have to close the program and open it again.

I take back some of the nice things I said about this version. When doing a Disc Quality test on DVD+R DL media with my BenQ DW1640, the program returns an error at the layer change. It works fine with 4.7.7.3 and 4.7.5.0.

I also think that there's a bug when writing Blu-ray discs but I need to run some more tests to be sure.

Yep, there's definitely a Blu-ray bug. For whatever reason, the discs burned with 4.7.7.5 are read back at only 2x on the GGW-H20L.
