TDK 4x BD-R Media

Postby Ian on Thu Aug 30, 2007 12:05 am

Faster recordable Blu-ray Disc media is finally on it way. TDK sent me a few pieces of their 4x BD-R media. The discs have a MID of "TDKBLDRBB" and are manufactured in Japan. Best of all, the GGW-H20L will write to them at 6x.

Have you heard of people having problems with their 2x BD-R media?

I've heard a few reports second hand. But one thing I've heard from a few sources is that TDK's 2x BD-R just barely hit the power level spec for recording... so when they launched their inkjet printable version of the same media, because of the heat disapation property changes when you add the extra layer, it created additional problems with recording the media. Some burners will fair better then others of course.

Unfortunately, not having a BD-R burner myself yet, I've had no oppurtunity to personally substantiate this.

I had some time tonite so I burned on of the new TDK discs. Even with the speed drop at the end, its still an impressive time.
