Amazon currently has the best deal going if you're looking to buy a Playstation 3. They're currently giving away a free remote and a copy of Resident Evil - Apocalypse in Blu-ray format with each 60GB PS3. Since its over $25, its also shipped free.

The 60GB PS3 is also qualifies for the 5 free BD movie offer so in the end you get a total of 6 free.

No real surprise though... this will probably be a continued thing as smaller HDDs are no longer manufactured.

yeah, but the point is that they want to phase out $499 PS3, so that they can sell you the $599 PS3....

No, the point is they knew the 60GB model was going to be unavailable shortly before they did the price drop. Meaning that from day one it was more of a clearence price and not a real price drop.

Don't forget, the 60GB model cost them more to make then the 80GB model, because of overstock from the initial production runs, as well as the emotion chip, which has since been removed in the latest model (means less PS3 backward compatability).

Are you saying the 80GB model will be less backward compatible with PS2 games?

Yes. The backwards compatability will be handled by software and not hardware, so it will be more difficult to get every game working. Sony has already made many improvements to the 80GB model however, and fixed a lot of compatability issues. There's a list available somewhere of known compatability issues I believe.
